Dear Senate President Scutari, Assembly Speaker Coughlin and Gov. Murphy, 

With an extraordinarily consequential election upon us, we are reminded more than ever of the need to protect our democracy. 

Since the U.S. Supreme Court gutted the heart of the federal Voting Rights Act, voter suppression has been on the rise. Washington D.C. refuses to protect voters, so states have begun to pass their own legislation. 

Although a strong state voting rights act has been introduced in New Jersey, legislators have failed to act – putting New Jersey voters at risk. 

New Jersey must protect our rights before we lose them.  

We call on you to hold a hearing, pass and sign into law the John R. Lewis Voter Empowerment Act of New Jersey (A4083/S3009) immediately. 

Democracy can’t wait – especially now.
