Judge tells Allenhurst man he can’t vote because he didn’t prove residency

An Allenhurst man’s attempt to vote in a non-partisan municipal election was rejected today after a Superior Court judge believed that his primary domicile was in Brooklyn.

The man – the New Jersey Globe withholds the names of voters who appear before judges on Election Day to protect their privacy – was turned away at his polling location because the Monmouth County Superintendent of Elections put him on their challenge list due to insufficient verification of his residency.

He said he purchased a home in Allenhurst in 2020, lived there during the pandemic, knocked it down and rebuilt it – and then moved back there in 2023.
